“E-day 2010 Berlin Tempelhof" - organic caterer Select Catering Berlin orders trendy Segways for events and incentives

17. Mai 2010

“Electronic mobility – transportation concept of the future” - on 8th May 2001, this year’s e-day gave the go-ahead for a new era of Tempelhof Airport. The former airfield was symbolically handed over to the citizens of Berlin with an official opening event. In an area of over 70,000 square metres, the 200,000 expected visitors had the opportunity to see the Segways, e-bikes, e-scooters and e-cars right in front of their eyes and go on test rides.

The greatest hit was the Roadster Tesla (slogan: “Burn rubber, not gasoline”) from 0 to 100km/h in five seconds, the hangar literally flew past, then the first curve came…, no problem thanks to the traction control. In addition to the sporty, environmentally friendly gear, the 3.95 metre long and 1.13 metre flat Roadster has airbags, a cruiser, air conditioning, seat heaters and many electronic accessories, since rolling down the windows by hand would be excessive energy saving.

But there was another impressive vehicle on the course: Equipped with heavy motocross wheels and a huge motorbike structure on top, the eRockit has simply been given rocker status. But watch out: On the right and left where you usually find the foot rests of the motorbike, bicycle pedals jut out of the body. A mass-power accelerator rapidly transmits the pedal power to a multiple of the cycling power. A speed of 60 to 80km/h is easily reached - the e-Rockit speeds up really fast. But please, helmet and motorcyle-driving licence are a must.

Of course, there is a calmer way of moving. For instance, with the A2B hybrid bicycle, the light electrical folding bike by Gocycle and the life-style scooter Segway. The personal transporter (Segway PT, formerly HT for human transporter, and in some regional police organisations also called self-balancing scooter) moves into the direction to which the driver leans. Hopping on, leaning forward and the two big wheels start to roll. Automatic sensors prevent you from tilting. If you want to stop you just lean backwards.

Relaxed rolling with the Segway…

Relaxed rolling with the Segway…

Ideal for sight-seeing, otherwise you would run your legs off. You are slightly elevated and consequently do not only have an overview of the traffic but also have time for interesting insights and views. It also makes sense as a shuttle service at trade fairs and conferences, thinks event manager Kitty van Aarlen of Select Caterin Berlin. Who does not know the long distances on exhibition sites? For incentives like guided group outings, Segways are surely a fun factor, too.

The contacts for the build-up of a rental fleet, which can be booked by groups of up to 100 persons per day, have been established. From the summer of 2010, organic caterer Select Catering – focussing on sustainable event concepts – will have Segways in the range in Berlin.

Are you interested in Segways or other vehicles? Please get in touch with us, we will be delighted to talk things through with you.

“What happens on the pitch is important – and the beer of course, too” - event beers for the Football World Cup in South Africa from organic caterer Select Catering Berlin

16. Mai 2010

Here we are again. Normal craziness is taking its course, the pitch becomes too long for double passes, but the width gets denser at the tip. Or as Gary Lineker put it in such a nice way: ”Football is a game with 22 players, and in the end, Germany always wins“.

imagesThe huge XXL table football for 8 players is a must to warm up. Surely, one or the other tracksuit top is taken off. So, when one's favourite side-parting commentators get under way the Warsteiner Queen of Beers is not far off during the king's game of football. But if you feel like it, you can also have a Becks, Bitburger or Budweiser, or what about Leffe, Heineken, Mythos, Guiness or Quilmes bottles, which the Hand of God likes to hold in his hand? quilmes

Organic caterer Select Catering Berlin has the right solution for your company party of Berlin public viewing of at least 50 people: For every match, you’ll get the beer of the opposing team. So for the first German group match, you will get a German beer of your choice vs. Jelen Pivo from the Apatin Brewery founded in Apatin in 1756. Since 2008, the brewery has been sponsoring the first Serbian football league, and is therefore a dignified opponent of soft Krombach beer. Together with the beer, small snacks and highlights of the traditional cuisine of our opponents’ countries will be served.

Book the huge XXL football table and a stylish goal-shooting catering at www.select-catering.de. Because we stick to tasty food, an excellent atmosphere and good old Giovanni Trappatoni: ”Football is ding, dang, dong. There is not only ding.”

“Plan B 4.0 – Mobilizing to Save Civilization” - organic caterer Select Catering Berlin caters for the German book premier of Lester R. Brown

07. Mai 2010

While the climate change causes feelings to run high, global challenges drift out of sight: Climate disasters, famines, astronomical energy prices, civil wars, shortage of water and pollution – we can simply not continue as before. It is high time for plan B. Lester R. Brown's latest book provides it.

Lester R. Brown in the discussion.

Some 100 chairs, grouped around a rostrum on 3rd May 2010, find room in the atrium of the GTZ building in Berlin. Behind this rostrum stepped “one of the most influential thinkers around the world” - said the Washington Post about the author and co-author of many books Lester R. Brown. His interdisciplinary analyses have been translated into more than 40 languages. They do not only mention the problems on our planet that menace our civilisation but also sum up the urgently needed solutions.
The challenges are described in the first paragraph: Worldwide food shortage, the population pressure on the disappearing land and water reserves, climate change and the transition of energy generation. The answers come in the second paragraph: Stabilising the climate by revolutionising energy efficiency and passing on to renewable energy, eradicating poverty and stabilising the population figures, remediating our planet and planning for sufficient food supply for 8 billion people.
Berlin organic caterer Select Catering often carries out events dealing with serious environmental topics, relief aid or cultural podiums such as the book presentation of the twentyfold honorary doctorate and director of the Earth Policy Institute. These contents and event schedules require a certain feel for the selection of the catering. In addition, budgets are usually modest for obvious reasons. “We therefore try to find a balance between simple meals and unusual eye catchers", says Kitty van Aarlen, event manager at Select Catering Berlin.
“Seasonal vegetables can be simple meals – May is asparagus season, you find a high-quality product as easy as that. Most customers would also consent to a simple Italian potato meal - if you combine gnocchi with fresh herbs and a light sauce, you will meet the taste of 90% of the clients. With an exotic product from the orchards of the Uckermark region – glacé rose and carnation blossoms – our live kitchen sets the optical counterpoint. Down-to-earth cuisine with local ingredients at high restaurant level – that’s the recipe of success of Select Catering Berlin”.
The most important question, however, is: Does Lester R. Brown’s recipe work? Can we mobilise people fast enough? Re-distribute taxes and subsidies in a sensible way, stabilise the climate and eradicate hunger in the world? These are questions for readers, every single consumer and decision-makers in politics.
